Rick Potts is Director of the Human Origins Program and Curator of
Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian
Institution. His research focuses on ecological aspects of human
evolution; he has led excavations at early human sites in the East
African rift valley and leads a project devoted to comparing evidence
of early human behavior and environments in Southern China.
Currently, he directs a multidisciplinary research team at the famous
handaxe site of Olorgesailie, Kenya. Dr. Potts has authored numerous
research articles, several books and his ideas and comments have been
aired on the National Public Radio and PBS. He was also a presenter,
with Stephen Jay Gould, of the Emmy-Winning "Tales of the Human Dawn"
on PBS.
